Having had my lower back teeth extracted over 30 years ago in my mid twenties, I found that my upper teeth had grown down into the space below, leaving me with an unsightly appearance as though my side and back teeth were falling out of my head! A dentist convinced me to have a removable partial denture which dipped down to allow the top teeth to fit in. It not only felt unnatural to have a lump of plastic and metal in my mouth but the teeth didn’t look even and straight because of my elongated upper teeth. I tried to persevere with that denture for nearly 2 years. You can imagine how thrilled I was to get rid of it when I found out that Dr. Shohmelian could not only replace my missing lower back teeth but lift the upper teeth also with beautiful porcelain crowns and bridges. Now I can eat what I want and smile with a new level of confidence because I no longer have to wear a removable set of teeth nor does my smile appear misshapen.

I have tried bleaching my teeth with a tooth whitening kit from the chemist. It didn’t work. Then my dentist gave me some bleaching gels to put in thin mouthguards she made for me. Although I wore them for four weeks, I wasn’t happy with the result. Even my dentist was disappointed, but it still cost me $500. That’s when she sent me to Chatswood Dental because they have a guaranteed tooth whitening system called LaserWhite – UltraSmile developed by Dr. Joseph Shohmelian, using laser technologies and in just over an hour, my teeth were seven to eight shades lighter! Over the next few weeks and months I had a total improvement of 12 shades. Wow!

Having been embarrassed by my gummy smile for as long as I can remember, I was so delighted by the change that was performed for me at the Chatswood Dental with a “gum lift” operation. It was carried out with a dental laser and I did not even have to be numbed. Within an hour, my short stumpy teeth were lengthened by removing the excess gum that had covered them for years. I could not believe my eyes that my own teeth looked so good without the need for any fancy treatments like crowns or porcelain veneers. I am planning to have them whitened though, because I have seen the photos of what dramatic results are being achieved at the practice, but I will have to save the $1800 to start the program so that I can get the full benefit of these amazing cosmetic techniques that I never new existed.

So many of my friends have commented that they would love whiter back teeth rather than the silver and black fillings we had to have when we were young. But I had heard that the new plastic fillings weren’t as good and that gold was the only option. Well, I certainly did not want gold in my teeth but the ceramic restorations that are performed at Chatswood Dental made all the difference. My teeth are stronger than when I had the silver fillings and they are all beautiful and natural in colour. The amazing high tech CAD-CAM technologies that they use to produce these inlays and onlays explain why each tooth cost me on average around $1500-$1600. Well worth it though. Needless to say that a number of my baby boomer friends are now patients at the practice also, getting their amalgams replaced with ceramic restorations. Beautiful technologies, simply beautiful.

I had paid $20,000 to crown and bridge all of my teeth in 1989. My dentist retired, and when in 1998 I started having multiple infections and major difficulties, he told me to see Dr. Shohmelian for implants and new porcelain bridges. Sure the treatment took twelve months and I paid $48,000 for a Hollywood smile, but at 55 years of age I’m a new man again. Even my $330,000 Mercedes doesn’t give me as much pleasure as my new smile and the confidence to chew the foods I enjoy. I’ve regained a quality of life by just being able to enjoy the simple things like smiling and unrestricted eating.

I must have been completely asleep during the porcelain veneer preparations and the two implants I needed to replace my missing front teeth. Because two of my incisors had never formed, I had worn a denture throughout my teenage years, waiting for the day when I could get rid of it and have some natural teeth put in. However, I did not like the suggestion of replacing them with implants and crowns because it involved “implant surgery”! Just the word “surgery” scared me enough to keep the denture! But the Twilight Sedation made it simple. I really cannot remember a thing about that day. All I know is that I went there and later found myself being driven home. Complete amnesia from the time I went under until virtually the time I walked back in to my house. The result? A beautiful smile with veneers on my 8 natural upper teeth and two porcelain crowns supported by implants. No more denture! Looks great, feels terrific.
